This is my third go around with a newborn and I’ve learned a few things along the way. There really isn’t much you need for the newborn stage but there are a few newborn essentials. I’m sharing the things that have made my life easier and are a must for the first few months.
Newborn Essentials: Rock n Play
I’ve had this for all 3 of my girls and I didn’t really appreciate it until my second was born. She struggled with reflux and this little rock n play is now a newborn essential for all my babies. My youngest doesn’t have as big an issue with reflux but I’m still using it. This can be moved so easily from room to room & even house to house.
Newborn Essentials: Swaddle Blankets
I still buy new blankets even though I have two older girls. I like all my girls to have their own blankets because even my 5 year old still uses her set of swaddle blankets. This one came in a set from the Cloud Island brand at Target.
Newborn Essentials: Bouncer
This bouncer is my best friend! I saw a food blogger use this right before I had my second daughter and I had to have it. She was cooking away in the kitchen and her babe was right there with her on the kitchen counter (don’t worry, it was safely positioned on the counter and not close to the edges). I wanted to keep my baby close and I really love how it sits nicely on the kitchen table so she can be with us as we eat dinner as a family.
Newborn Essentials: Floral Activity Playmate
Isn’t she cute! I stalked the shelves at Target and online to get this cute mat. It finally came in stock at my local store and I snagged it right away. I love having this little play mat because its her space. Having two older girls who are running the house, I wanted to create clear boundaries of her space. This little mat can also go straight into the washing machine & dryer so it is easy for baby to have a clean space.
Newborn Essentials: Pump & Paci’s
If you don’t have a breast pump and you are planning on nursing…get one! I used my insurance to get the Pump In Style by Medela. It’s AWESOME!!!! When I had my 2nd daughter enough time had passed where I could get a new pump. I decided to try a different one instead of getting a new Pump In Style. Girl, I still regret my decision. I wish I had gotten a new Pump In Style! But my 5 year old one is still working great!
The pacifier has been a friend of mine. I know there are differing opinions on when you should introduce a paci and different things work for different moms. I use the paci in the beginning to help get them on a feeding schedule and to pacify them so I don’t become their pacifier. Gone are the days where I can nurse all day, the two older ones need me too.
