Have you ever walked into your closet and said “I have nothing to wear!” even though you have a closet full of clothes? I am guilty of that myself and I’m sharing with the process I did on how to create your dream wardrobe. This will hopefully solve your style needs and get you excited about what’s in your wardrobe!
How To Create Your Dream Wardrobe
Discover Your Style
The first thing you need to do to create your dream wardrobe is identify things you like. My favorite tool for this is Pinterest, click here to follow me. They have made it so easy to create a vision board for the wardrobe of your dreams. I have several fashion boards you can use for inspiration. Create a board called style inspiration. I know…you’re saying to yourself you already have a fashion board!! I’m sure it has a ton of pins and you don’t actually love all of them. I want you to have a fresh start with a new fashion board and only add pins to it that you absolutely love. The board should have between 30-50 pins. Add anything that speaks to you on a deep level.
Anything On Repeat?
Once you have your 30-50 pins, go through them and write down colors, styles, combinations or themes you observe. For me, I noticed jeans, white blouses, heels, converse, wrap blouses, dresses and black pants. They were all over my board. The colors I gravitated towards were mainly neutrals. I liked a lot of black, white, grays with pops of pink and green. For prints I pinned stripes, leopard and florals.
Perfect Lifestyle Pieces
Think about all the things in life you need to dress for in your life. I wrote down: networking events, working with clients, playdates, date nights, and casual events. Look at the pieces you wrote down from your Pinterest Board and circle the pieces that will fit into your lifestyle. On my vision board I had a ton of jeans, blazers, boots, & black jeans.
Finding the Right Combo’s for your Dream Wardrobe
Go back to your vision board and see what style combo’s are there. Do you see a lot of pants & tops, dresses, skirts & blouses? What do you gravitate toward most? I gravitate toward outfits with pants. I don’t often wear dresses but I had a lot on my vision board. When deciding on what outfits remember to keep in mind what you feel most comfortable in and what looks good on your body type (we’ll get to this later in the series). Just because it’s pretty doesn’t mean it’s practical.
In order to add new pieces you must get rid of the old. This is one of my favorite things I do with my clients. Unleash yourself from all the things that don’t work for you!! Go through your closet and pull out what you have that matches the things on the list you made. If it’s not on the list, purge it!!! Don’t hold onto things you won’t wear. Trust me, it will feel good to get rid of the old clothes.
This whole process may take you a couple days or if you are like me, it may take you a week or more. I like to take my time with this process and I think you should too. There is no need to rush. Your dream wardrobe is worth waiting for. Next week I will be helping you establish a core style. If you have any questions please reach out to me via email and ask away JennLoyd@me.com
